Adera Main menu AC Work experience, Adacra (1997-2000)

Though I enjoyed working for AC, I left in the beginning of 1997 and joined Adacra, an Internet Management and Technology consulting firm, as a technical specialist. I wanted to focus on Internet technology and see what all the buzz was about.

I was one of the first employees and played a key part in making the firm the success it is today. I started by putting much of the technical infrastructure in place, including a custom firewall. Since then my role was very varying, though perhaps sometimes a bit less technical than what I had planned originally.

By the end of 1997 I became a Sun Certified Java Programmer. Since then I have kept myself up to date with Java and have also taken two other certifications, becoming IBM Certified Solution Developer for WebSphere, IBM's application server for servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans and so forth.

Internet projects are usually much shorter than "normal" development projects. As a technical specialist I often participated in several projects at the same time, hence the complete list is fairly long.

My two most interesting projects at Adacra were the development of the first and second version of a global cash forecasting system (WebForecast). It is used world-wide and has been or is being sold to several major companies. I was project manager, system architect and developer. Release 2 peaked at nine developers. We delivered on time and well below budget after several months of hectic work. The system uses Java applets and DHTML for presentation, ASP with VBScript for server-side code, C++ for background jobs and SQL Server 7.0 or Oracle 7.34 for storage.

Other notable projects include the development of an IT strategy for a major bank, an Internet store and the first version of a research and analysis system for a leading Swedish stock broker.

Overall I enjoyed my work at Adacra immensly. Nothing lasts forever, though. In 1999 I met my fiancé, Lina. She lived in Gothenburg, some 500 kilometers south of Stockholm. After one and a half years of commuting I decided that I had had enough and went looking for a job with better logistics.
